SCHOLARSHIPS

The Marco Island Shell Club offers two (2) two thousand dollar scholarships, one to a graduating senior from Lely High School and one to a graduating senior from Saint John Newman High School. There are several criteria for eligibility; the most important is an intended pursuit of a degree in marine biology, marine engineeering, oceanography, malacology, environment sciences or a related field. Applications are available from the guidance counselor at each high school. The student selections are made in the early spring.

In addition to the $2000 scholarship awards to Lely and St. John Neumann High Schools, the Marco Island Shell Club is providing two $1000 awards to Florida Gulf Coast University. One award is for a senior graduating in 2007 to help with expenses in preparing a senior thesis in the fields of marine biology, oceanography and related subjects. The other is for thesis expenses for a masters degree in environmental science, a new program at FGCU.
